YouTube MCP server in other apps

Any app that connects to a remote MCP server can use it. Here is where each of these keeps the setting, and whether it signs in or takes an API key.

Server URL
https://youtubetranscriptapi.com/mcp
Any app

The three things every app asks for

  • The server URL: https://youtubetranscriptapi.com/mcp
  • The transport: Streamable HTTP. The older SSE transport isn't used.
  • How to sign in: OAuth, if the app offers it, or the header Authorization: Bearer tk_live_… with a key from Dashboard → API Keys.

Zed

Settings → AI → MCP Servers → Add Server → Add Remote Server, or in your settings file. Leave out the header and Zed signs in for you.

  "youtube": {

VS Code extension · Sign in or API key

Cline

MCP Servers icon → Configure (or the Remote Servers tab), in cline_mcp_settings.json. Set "type": "streamableHttp": without it Cline uses the older SSE transport. Use Authorize OAuth to sign in instead of a key.

      "url": "https://youtubetranscriptapi.com/mcp",

Or from the Cline CLI
cline mcp add youtube https://youtubetranscriptapi.com/mcp --transport http --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" --yes

JetBrains agent · Sign in or API key

JetBrains Junie

Add a server named youtube to .junie/mcp/mcp.json (one project) or ~/.junie/mcp/mcp.json (all projects), with url set to the server URL and, for a key, headers with Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. To sign in instead, choose Authorize in /mcp. JetBrains AI Assistant's own MCP settings don't document headers or sign-in yet, so use Junie for this server.

Local models · API key

LM Studio

Version 0.3.17 or later. Add it to ~/.lmstudio/mcp.json with url and a headers entry for your key, or use the install link and add the header afterwards.

Terminal · API key

Warp

Add a server with url set to https://youtubetranscriptapi.com/mcp and an Authorization: Bearer … header. Warp's cloud agents can't use a server that needs sign-in, so give them the key header.

Agent · API key

Goose

Run goose configure, choose a Remote Extension (Streamable HTTP), paste the URL and add the Authorization header with your key. Goose saves it in ~/.config/goose/config.yaml. Its install links can't carry a header, so add the server this way rather than from a link.

Launcher · Sign in or API key

Raycast

A Raycast Pro feature. Add an MCP server with the HTTP URL above, then either sign in or add the Authorization header.

Chat app · Sign in or API key

Le Chat (Mistral)

Connectors → Add → Custom MCP Connector, and paste the URL. Le Chat detects how to sign in; choose sign-in, or Bearer with your key. Only admins add connectors, and on Free, Pro and Student the account owner is the admin.

Chat app · Sign in or API key

Perplexity

On Pro, Max or Enterprise: Plugins → Add custom → Connector → Remote. Paste the URL, choose Streamable HTTP, and sign in or enter your API key.

Agent builder · Sign in or API key

Microsoft Copilot Studio

In your agent: Tools → Add a tool → New tool → Model Context Protocol. Paste the URL, then choose API key (as a header) or OAuth 2.0 with dynamic discovery.

Automation · Sign in or API key

Make (MCP Client app)

The MCP Client app is in open beta. Add “Call a tool” and create a connection with the URL and your API key. Make's docs don't say how it sends the key; if calls come back unauthorized, sign in instead. For fixed steps, the HTTP module is simpler: see YouTube transcripts in Make.

Zapier (MCP Client)

In a Zap or a Zapier Agent, add MCP Client by Zapier (beta). Set Server URL to the address above, Transport to Streamable HTTP, and either turn on OAuth or paste your key as the Bearer Token. Use Run Read-Only Tool: every tool here only reads.

If it connects to remote MCP servers, the three settings above are all it needs. Tell us which app through the contact form and we'll add a section.
